While the PS3 hasn’t received near the RPG support as its predecessor, it still has a few fun titles sure to tide fans over until the release of Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy XIV on the horizon.

One of the PS3’s better known RPGs is Valkyria Chronicles, which is a more modern RPG set in a 1930s environment, featuring stunning visuals and a lot of original features. Eternal Sonata is another RPG which commands widespread respect among RPG fans, and while it is also available on Xbox 360, most fans prefer the PS3 as it features new dungeons, cutscenes, and music, as well as a couple new characters. Eternal Sonata is most renowned for its combat, which is a breath of fresh air in comparison to the turn based combat common to most RPGs. Disgaea 3, one of the few exclusive PlayStation 3 games, is a bow to fans of strategy RPGs. The Disgaea franchise began on the PS2 with the surprise release of Disgaea: Hour of Darkness. Disgaea became a cult classic which ascended to Greatest Hits status, a position most often only reserved for RPGs bearing the Final Fantasy moniker. This third installment in the series is just as innovative as the last two, with improved graphics and an original and diverse cast of characters.
